An award winning museum in a spectacular Georgian cotton mill located in beautiful Styal Estate. The museum tells the fascinating story of the Mill and the cotton industry through reconstruction, live demonstrations and hands-on displays. At the Apprentice House, home to the pauper children who worked at the mill, mill life is relived through the eyes of a nine year old. Restaurant, mill shop and snack bar. Events programme. Restored steam engine with supporting galleries, interactive exhibits - all accessible. National Trust.

PARKINGCar park: some distance from site entrance. Passengers may disembark at Mill entrance (vehicles to return to main car park). Disabled drivers may sometimes park in Mill courtyard by prior arrangement.
APPROACHLong, gently sloping path from car park. Cobbled surface in Courtyard area.
RECEPTIONReception/Shop: Access via steps or very steep ramp (wheelchair users may need assistance).
TOILETSIn inner Courtyard (approached over cobbled area).

GENERALDue to fire regulations, wheelchair users must have an able bodied companion and only five wheelchair users can follow the designated route at any one time.
APPRENTICE HOUSE & GARDENApproached via steep slope (approx. 10 mins walk). Step free access to garden and ground floor, stepped access only to upper floor but photographic record of upper floors available. Guided tours only.
MILLA designated route for wheelchair users and those with mobility difficulties runs through the heart of the Mill, and is approached through an alternative entrance. The route is on two levels, with a platform lift between them. Keys for entrance and lift are available from reception. The main route around the Mill passes through five floors - stepped access to upper floors only. Seating provided where possible. Exhibits to stimulate senses.
