Whether staring skywards at distant stars or travelling down beneath tropical seas - Cheshire provides visitors of all ages with an exciting and welcoming day out.
In the Planetarium, at Jodrell Bank Science Centre near Holmes Chapel, visitors can travel to mysterious corners of the galaxy before venturing outside to see for themselves the giant dish of one of the world's largest radio telescopes.
Near Nantwich, however, there are even darker secrets waiting to be discovered. Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker takes visitors to the hidden depths of the fully equipped Government HQ that would have been used in the event of a nuclear war.
Coming back to ground level, two of Britain's foremost wildlife attractions are just a short drive from Chester. Blue Planet Aquarium boasts awesome sharks and other colourful sea-life swimming above an 80 metre long underwater tunnel, as well as a chance to get close to all kinds of sea creatures in the hands-on area.
Nearby, Chester Zoo continues to conserve ever more exotic species. Some of the latest additions are found in the Twilight Zone Bat Cave, the largest free-flight bat cave in the world with 200 of the nocturnal creatures flying free around visitors' heads.
Fascination of a different kind can be experienced at Catalyst, the Museum of the Chemical Industry and Ellesmere Port's Boat Museum, and for children, Gulliver's Theme Park, near Warrington with its many rides is irresistible.
Finally, on a hot day, what could be more welcome than an ice cream freshly made on one of Cheshire's two ice cream farms: Cheshire Farm Ice Cream and Snugburys?
